Happy Referral Day, Little Man!

Today marks 1 year since we first saw this face:

What a difference a year makes!
We love you, Keane, and we can't imagine our lives without you!

We love him so much!

I know I've been a terrible blogger, but give me a break - I'm a new mom! Everyone keeps asking how things are going, so I thought I would give an update now that we've been home for 3 weeks.

First of all, why didn't anyone tell me just how difficult this would be?? We spent so much time going through the adoption process and preparing to have a baby in the house...but no one told me that we needed to prepare physically and mentally too! :) Becoming first-time parents in a foreign country is difficult, but the transition when we got home was so much harder for me. We were all jet-lagged, no one was getting any sleep, and we were just trying to get by. The entire first week that we were home is really just a blur - I know that there was a lot of crying - both me and Keane! Mike has been a great dad - getting up with him when I couldn't pull myself out of bed, reassuring me when I was not sure of myself, and being truly patient through the worst of it all.

Second of all, why didn't anyone tell me that we would get through the difficult first few weeks and forget that it was so hard?? We love Keane so much. He is such a special child - he is perfect for our family and is a blessing to us! I have been able to stay home with him, and will continue to do so for the next two months before returning to work. Now that we know each other better and he is sleeping through the night, we are all much happier! :) He is crawling around like crazy and getting into things he's not supposed to - and he is starting to try to pull up to stand. He's going to go from baby to toddler really quick!

And now what you are all waiting for...pictures!

This is the first picture we saw of Keane...previously known as Mubarek.

These are a few pictures we received along the way (through updates from our agency and awesome friends who were traveling to Ethiopia before us).

Now you can see why we were so anxious to go get him! Isn't he cute???

I will do a separate post with recent pictures! :)
